Ruhena’s Story

About Us

From Stay-at-Home Mum to Community Leader

The Beginning: Finding WETA

Real-life strategy to reach your goals.

Ruhena Bibi spent years as a dedicated stay-at-home mum, raising her children and creating a loving home. But as her children grew more independent, she felt the need to prioritise her own wellbeing and re-enter the workforce. Despite her doubts and lack of work experience, Ruhena discovered WETA through an Employability Course in 2020.

She soon joined the Me Time with Henna Workshop, a women’s wellbeing programme that taught her henna art while focusing on mental health and personal growth. This programme became her safe space, where she connected with other women, built her confidence, and learned to see herself as more than “just a mum.

Transformation: From Participant to Volunteer

Ruhena’s journey with WETA didn’t stop at being a participant. She attended multiple cohorts of the Me Time workshops, where she not only learnt new skills but also gained the confidence to pursue her goals. Inspired by Razia Shaikh Patel, the facilitator, Ruhena began volunteering and shadowing Razia, gaining hands-on experience in community work.

This experience was a turning point for Ruhena, who discovered her passion for helping others. She realised she had the skills and potential to make a difference in her community.

A New Chapter: Employment and Empowerment

Real-life strategy to reach your goals.

Ruhena’s hard work and dedication paid off. In October 2022, she signed her first work contract as a Cultural Consultant with Just Psychology, an organisation she learnt about through WETA. Soon after, in February 2023, she joined WETA as a sessional worker, supporting and coordinating projects.

Ruhena’s journey came full circle—from being a participant to becoming an employee of the very organisation that transformed her life.

“WETA helped me see my value and strengths. I’m grateful for the opportunities that allowed me to grow and achieve my goals.
