Hirra’s Story
Hirra’s Story
From Isolation to Empowerment

The Beginning: Finding WETA
Real-life strategy to reach your goals.
Hirra Tariq moved to the UK six years ago but struggled with isolation and self-doubt. Despite having the support of her in-laws, she found it difficult to make friends and felt stuck in her career. As a make-up artist, she was struggling to focus and lacked confidence in her abilities.
Everything changed when she discovered WETA’s Me-Time with Henna Workshop at her daughter’s school parents’ evening. Hirra joined the programme to meet new people, take time for herself, and improve her henna skills. Little did she know, this decision would transform her life.
“WETA helped me see my value and strengths. I’m grateful for the opportunities that allowed me to grow and achieve my goals.”

Transformation: Building Confidence and Community
The Me-Time workshops became a safe space for Hirra. She learned henna art, explored self-care practices, and connected with women from her community. Through the programme, she gained confidence, made lifelong friends, and rediscovered her passion for creativity.
Inspired by Razia Shaikh Patel, the facilitator, Hirra began volunteering with WETA and The Big Life. She took on leadership roles, organised events, and even started designing her own henna patterns—something she had never done before. This experience helped her realise her potential and passion for community work.

A New Chapter: Employment and Future Goals
Real-life strategy to reach your goals.
Hirra’s journey with WETA opened doors to new opportunities. She completed a Level 6 course in mental health and wellbeing, started working as WETA’s Social Media Manager, and discovered her love for teaching and digital design.
Today, Hirra is planning to run wellbeing and henna/make-up sessions with WETA and has enrolled in a Level 3 Award in Education and Training. She’s also looking forward to pursuing a Master’s degree in the future.
